Pre/Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training
with KELLY COX // RYT-500, RPYT, LCSW, BIRTH DOULA
Kelly Cox’s 85-hr Pre/Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training is in-depth study of contraindications of pregnancy in regard to the asana practice, how pregnancy affects the body and how those contraindications may affect a student’s practice. Through lecture, open discussion and hands-on practice, we will learn how to modify asana and offer pranayama practices in order to develop class sequences that prepare and educate students mentally and physically for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. This training is comprehensive, inclusive, and will prepare you to lead classes that nurture and support students throughout their journey.
Over our 4 weekends together, you can expect to learn the following:
An in-depth review of pregnancy and birth education
Fertility and infertility, and how to address & support all different journeys to pregnancy
How to address discomforts, complications, and issues of pregnancy
Modifications for asana practice for the pregnant body by trimester
Prenatal class sequencing (including practice teaching!)
Anatomy of the pelvis and abdomen in terms of how pregnancy affects the body
Therapeutic approach to working with this population
Cultural attitudes of pregnancy/birth and your role in supporting students
How to address asana practice for the postnatal period, including a review of PMADs
★ Participants also receive an Unlimited Membership to Whole Heart Space for 3 months during the training (effective 2/1/25 - 4/30/25).
Please note: This group will maintain confidentiality throughout the training — the topic of pregnancy, birth, etc can bring up a lot of emotions so we commit to maintaining a level of comfort and security to ensure the mental health of all those involved.

“Taking the 85-hour Prenatal/Postnatal Teacher training was a life changing experience for me. Kelly Cox is certainly one of the best educators I have come to know and learn from, and Rachel Knight’s creation of a safe, loving space at Whole Heart Space was the perfect place to take the class. Since then, I’ve felt so welcomed to take on teaching experiences, guiding prenatal/postnatal folks through a safe, yet mindful and functional yoga practice. I’m also very excited for my position to host some HIIT classes at Whole Heart Space, beginning this late fall. “ - Raven
Meet Kelly!
LEAD TEACHER // RYT-500, RPYT, LCSW, BIRTH DOULA
I first started practicing yoga during graduate school, where it became a great outlet for me in dealing with a demanding schedule. Through regular practice, I learned the power of the mind/body connection and have found the ability to live a more balanced life.
My true passion in teaching lies with pregnant and new mothers. Through my work with pregnant women, I have gained an appreciation for the process of pregnancy, birth, and the beautiful connection between mothers and babies, as well as among the mothers who attend classes. Yoga is more than a physical practice, the community that is built is sometimes the most rewarding aspect.
I am a Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher as well as a birth doula based in Charlottesville, Virginia. I have been teaching pre and perinatal yoga for over 10 years and trained as a birth doula in 2014. I teach expectant and new mothers on a regular basis and travel to train others how to support women during their childbearing years.
I also work with women and their birth partners to prepare for labor, delivery, and what to expect during their postnatal years.
I recently launched Share The Drop, the first commerce free app matching breast milk donors to recipients in real time, offering instant access to human milk for all infants.
Prior to opening a yoga studio, I worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with an emphasis on dealing with issues of sexual assault and domestic violence. Serving women as they navigate the transitions in their lives has been a wonderful blessing to me.
